The group
Started in 2021 on Facebook by Liz Owen, Access in St Neots was conceived from the point of view of a wheelchair user. There was quickly a lot of interest from other disabilities (not necessarily needing a wheelchair), families with pushchairs and elderly, less mobile people.

- Our aim
- Our vision
- Our mission
We educate and bring awareness to those who ask for our advice, or if where appropriate, we step in and try to make positive changes.
Using lived experience, we gather together our recommendations for any person, business or organisation in terms of improving and providing a much more accessible experience. From big companies, to local charities, voluntary organisations and individuals, nobody is excluded.
From the first point of contact, we arrange to meet either in person, or online and discuss what information or advice is required. All of the advice is solely based on lived experience, is voluntary and recommendations are offered, but not enforced.
We want everyone to be treated fairly and equally, with our organisation leading the way in information and education. Having a town where disability is a positive and not a barrier, is why we want to push for change.
Where are we?
Who is the founder?
Hi I'm Liz and I created this group in 2021. I am a full time wheelchair user and my main disability is from a genetic and chronic condition called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hEDS type).
You can find out more here: https://www.ehlers-danlos.com/what-is-eds/
I have used a wheelchair since 2014 and so I've seen both an able bodied and disabled view of life.
I am passionate about helping others and improving awareness of disabled issues. I think it's very unfair that a disabled person has to put up with a world that has less access and opportunities.
Since moving to St Neots from Bedfordshire in 2014, I have become involved in many local and regional groups, these include:
