Changing Places is coming to St Neots!!!
After 2 years of informing people, going to the council and determination, my hard work has paid off!
With a lot of help from St Neots Town Council and funding from the government sent to Huntingdonshire District Council, the building work is currently taking place! The rest of the toilet block is also getting a make over!

Across the UK, there are just over 1,700 Changing Places toilets. Approximately 100 Changing Places toilets are registered each year across the UK.

What are Changing Places toilets?
"Imagine having to change your son, daughter or partner on the floor of a public toilet.
Imagine how you would feel if you were that person on that floor. Sadly, there are thousands of disabled people and families who do not have to use their imagination. For them, this is a daily reality.
Standard accessible toilets meet the needs of some disabled people – but not all. Over 250,000 people in the UK need personal assistance to use the toilet or change continence pads, including people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, spinal injuries and people living with stroke. Without appropriate facilities, carers are
forced to change continence pads on public toilet floors or wait until they go home. This is unhygienic, undignified and unacceptable.
Changing Places toilets offer a solution. They are larger facilities that have the right equipment, including a changing bench and a hoist, designed to support disabled people who need assistance. In the last decade we have seen hundreds of Changing Places toilets installed across the UK, including in major shopping centres, airports, train stations and town centres. We have seen first-hand how Changing Places toilets open up a world of possibility.
The summer of 2012 saw many people with complex and multiple disabilities and their families able to be a part of the London Olympic and Paralympic Games due to the availability of Changing Places toilets at the various sites and venues. We have also heard about the benefits from those who install the toilets and the advantages to local communities. However, while progress has been made, more is needed if we are to meet the demand for Changing Places toilets and to see them in all public areas."

Current Projects
#projectdoorbell
Access in St Neots has bought 10 wireless doorbells and 10 window stickers, to assist businesses being accessible/more accessible.
The idea is for businesses with ramped access, but no way of asking for help from the outside, to use a doorbell to get assistance.
For those where access is impossible due to structure, shared access and if the inside is so small, you would not benefit from getting inside, then a doorbell would allow the disabled person to shop from, or collect goods and pay from the entrance door.
A few local businesses are earmarked by Access in St Neots for a bell, but we would love your suggestions of where else could benefit from one. E-mail us on [email protected]

After a very long time, this idea has been in the pipeline, waiting to blossom!
Originally an idea Liz threw around many years ago with Steve Whitney of Walk & Talk for Men, developed after seeing a need for meet ups and encouraged by Kate Cory-Wright, who set up Walk & Talk 4 Women.
We will be having social meet ups for anyone in St Neots and the surrounding area, who want to meet others, share any tips, struggles, have a vent, enjoy a short walk/roll and more. There will be meet ups with no rolling/strolling, short walks, longer walks, walks for just carers, plus so much more.
If there's a need for a category, we'll try and provide it.
